Seat console, side adapter, running rail – everything for the racing seat in your car!

Do I need it? How does it work? What does the TÜV say?

SPEED Engineering GmbH

Let’s start with the demands on us engineers. What must the product be able to do:

  • It must be safe
  • Should be as light as possible
  • You have to sit in the middle with every seat shell
  • Focus? Yes, of course, so we have to sit deep
  • Simple and logical to install
  • The construction must be rigid and strong
  • Your car probably looks cool, as if our product has to keep up

Now it’s your turn…

Are you traveling fast?

Do you move your car so quickly that at a certain point you have to exert force to stay behind the wheel? After a few laps on the racetrack you have pressure points on your legs and on the GoPro recording you can see tense arms when steering?

This should be compensated for by a suitable seat and not your body, because it should only carry out the commands of your racing instincts! That answers the question of whether you need a racing seat in your car: No! But we’re pretty sure you WANT one!

The side adapters for the bucket seat

To install a Recaro Pole Position, Sparco Pro200 or other bucket seats, for example, you always need side adapters (also known as L adapters). These are the connecting element between the seat and the running rail.

The running rail

Speaking of the running track. We work with different systems here and even use the original running rail on some BMWs, but in most cases our customers prefer the running rail offered here in the store, which can be purchased as an option. However, our systems are designed so that they also work with the widely used Recaro running rail. The running rail is therefore the element between the side adapter and the bracket.

The seat console

The console (also known as the seat console) is your foundation. It is the basis of the system and is firmly bolted to the chassis. In most cases, our brackets are thicker than those of other suppliers, yet we are lower in overall height and not heavier. How does that work? We sometimes design the material thickness so that you already have threads in the bracket and don’t have to lock them under the bracket with a nut (this saves us installation space and therefore height and you have fewer nuts and washers for assembly). To reduce the weight at the same time, we run FEM analyses on our components so that we remove any volume of material that is not load-bearing.

Not only the console, but all components are designed according to this principle. We also choose a thicker material for the side L-adapters, while keeping the weight low.

What does the TÜV say?

This approach also pleases our engineering colleagues at TÜV. We have to make it clear that we can never guarantee registration. Registration by individual approval is often a subjective decision by the inspector. However, we are doing everything we can to make registration possible. Our products are demonstrably 100% Made in Germany and we also prove this with the material certificates that we supply. If required, we can also provide documentation of FEM analyses and design with sufficient safety factors.
